I only write journals every four months (in April, August and December), but I felt like I had to say something about this here and now.

Several days ago, someone who wishes to remain anonymous, informed me of this situation: someone involved with this MKW Animation Studio had stolen several of my Disney Villains 3D fanart, along with several other deviant's 2D and 3D art, and included it in their portfolio. Other people affected contacted the person responsible for this, and made her remove some of the stolen art from her social media accounts, and some from her website too. At this point, she claimed to be an innocent victim, falsely accused, who has a legitimate 2D&3D studio, and that all of this was due to some honest mistake made by her webdesigner. But when I see my material (with my signature cropped out of the pictures) all over her website and social media, I cannot believe any honest mistake has been made. Furthermore, here you can see how some of the people who discovered all this and confronted her, took the trouble of contacting some of the professionals and studios cited in her resume, long story short: nobody knows this person or her 'studio'. So I wonder what happens when someone tries to hire her to do some of the 2D&3D work she showcases in her completely fictional portfolio, which is made out of promotional artwork by Nintendo, Square-Enix, My Little Pony and others that she had nothing to do with, plus fanart stolen from some of us.

Here's a screencapture I made of the 3D Anime Character Design section of her portfolio, where seven of my deviations are displayed without my permission. I contacted this person via dA, because even here at dA itself she had some of the stolen art displayed in her gallery, and so far I've had no answer.
Art-theft by AEmiliusLives
Coincidentally, this whole thing happened around a time when several people were asking me to send them my actual 3D models, and other people are asking for me to please make them available somehow. What happened with all this only made me decide I'll never do that. For starters I'm the first one to realize that my models are nowhere near good enough to sell, but now that some people is capitalizing on my renders, I don't even want to imagine what such people might do if they had access to my actual sculptures. Probably I should stop offering high resolution versions of my renders too? I'll see what I'll do about that.

Sorry about this rant, but I just had to say something. Since it seems there's little else I can do. January's been rough on me, this happened, my modem broke and left me without internet connection at home, my dog died... and don't get me started on what's going on in my country. Hopefully the rest of 2015 will be more kind to me.

I am really sorry to hear your art has been stolen. I don't understand why people feel the need to claim other people's art as there own and then go even lower to make a portfolio out of it and try to get jobs off of the art.

You are an amazing and talented person, and I really hope you continue to show off your work!

:thanks: Thank you very much  At first I was upset and even a little paranoid about this whole thing, but I'm better now that the stolen art has been removed from that website. Also, the support of fellow deviants has been priceless, it made me feel really appreciated and helped me put things into perspective.

thought you may be interested to know (if you haven't seen already) I have confirmation they've lied about at least part of their job history. I emailed Ian Lynam Design and they say they've never heard of her much less worked with her from 2011 to 2014 like she claims. she also may wind up getting what's coming soon. I contacted some people whose work she has in her portfolio and one who is currently living and working in Japan took it upon themselves to contact Studio Ghibli since she's claiming she worked with them and even has clips from two of their projects in her portfolio.

Oh yeah, I did read the Ian Lynam part but hadn't seen your latest updates yet  Gosh, she's really shameless, isn't she? Studio Ghibli?! Jeez :O As if stealing from over 20 deviants for her portfolio wasn't bad enough, her resume is also a big load of BS :O But what's the point? And what happens if someone actually tries to hire her? She's a con artist or something?

at this point I'm sure it's a scam. all that stolen art, all those lies they've made, at this point I'm even pretty sure that Masayo Kakihara isn't their real name and wouldn't even be surprised at all if they were some guy from Bangladesh or India (or multiple people from one or both places). legit animation studios would be able to catch on to the fact it smells fishy right away more than likely, leaving only amateurs wanting help with project ideas they want to get made to fall for their scam. then they'd have newbies wanting to get experience falling for their adds saying they want new animators and artists to milk a cheap result from. and while it seems stupid they'd post they're hiring on the very site they stole a good chunk of their portfolio from doing so means they can say they made announcements on this site that they were hiring making it seem more plausible that they'd have stuff from dA artists in their portfolio. even posing as a woman could be a tactical move as some people may think a woman would be less likely to pull off a scam like this.

and they did only claim they worked with Ghibli on The Wind Rises and Ronja (and with Pierrot on Akatsuki no Yona, and made the claim there was an ANN article saying they'd be working with Shinichiro Watanabe on a future project), considering sometimes the main studios outsource to smaller studios for backgrounds and inbetween animation and the like that's not too unbelievable a boast, altho Ghibli is rather atypical in that it does extremely little outsourcing on its works (it's actually more likely someone will outsource to them than they'll outsource to someone else, altho now that they've restructured that may change).

I think they're basically trying to sound as impressive as possible without being too out there to the point only the most gullible of the most gullible will fall for it.

I hope nobody will indeed be scammed by whoever this person is. Most people I talked to are of the same opinion and think most professionals won't fall for it or buy any of this.
And today she's finally emptied the "3D Anime Character Design" section of her website, removing my works and the rest. But the website and other sections are still up.

I don't think their main target is professionals. I think they're going after gullible people who want to get started in the animation business or people who are looking to get an animation project off the ground who have little to no experience with doing that before. they're after the kind of naive people who will see someone claiming their animation services are affordable claiming to have done work with some big names and take it all at face value. there's always newbies trying to get started who naively fall for stuff (like artists who think it's fine to work for exposure with little to no pay in order to get started when aiming to go pro) and people with visions of projects they want to see become reality who may be willing to toss out money at people saying they can help at a supposedly affordable price.

and I noticed they did that. took down the Ghibli and Akatsuki no Yona clips and the old 3D Animation clips too. replaced the 3D animation clips with new ones tho, so far I've sourced 2 of the 3 new ones to dA users.

until that, or they actually wind up having to face real legal action for what they're doing, or THEY get tired of repeatedly having to delete stuff and change up what's in their portfolios.

its really sad when this things happen, because, that person is losing reputation; but...

that means that you are really good, and if she is selling your artwork, you could report her.

I never understand why people do this. It also seems especially stupid to try in the age of reverse image search engines. And even if they flip or crop an image, we also live in the social media age where almost everything will eventually get back to the actual creator through the grapevine.

Did you report the deviations she stole? Obviously dA won't be much help with her website but they should be able to at least get the stuff she re-posted as deviations of her own taken down.

Sorry to hear about this. I hope it gets resolved soon!

When it comes to what she thought she could get away with, this person was especially daring, or dumb. Not only she had the stolen works of over twenty deviants in her portfolio and social media accounts, she also made some really bold claims in her resume, she even lists Studio Ghibli in her credits, for crying out loud! :O And the more people back-check on her, more lies appear. Deviant kageitachi has been compiling all of this on her journal.

Masayo's and MKWAnimation's dA gallery have been emptied, same with her facebook, twitter and tumblr accounts because the people who first discovered all this reported her, flagged the images and contacted her too. After other deviants complained, she emptied some sections of the portfolio, but the website itself still stands and she's still offering her services and soliciting employment linking to it, with most of the stolen art still in place, and then there's this ludicrous list of credits.

Thanks for caring. I hope and trust it'll all be over soon too. There's a lot of people involved and they're all working on it.

I think it's best you put a watermark on all your pieces from now on so they can't get stolen.

Yeah, I guess... but I never wanted to have an invasive kind of watermark :( So I don't know what to do. If I added bigger watermarks people could still crop them out if they wanted to. Unless I added one across the character's faces or something, and that's the last thing I want to do.

hmm maybe just disable downloads and from now on post only swf or gif files? that way they can't download it at all?
watermark may not be what you want but at times like these you might have to put it :(

Disgusting. But it were bound to happen one day, wasn' it? They are quiet nice, and finding the source (people looking at portfolios and pend to hire, will check for proof) so I doubt she'll get away with it.
However, the bigger fault will be on " Masayo Kakihara " , if that is her real name. Her reputation is now forever ruined.

And about that link... what a great way to start 2015.

Yeah, my 2015's been nightmarish so far. But well, I can only hope things will get better.

As for Masayo, she's been so shameless and reckless! Now we know she stole from over 20 deviants, actual professionals mentioned in her website say they don't even know her. She even lists Studio Ghibli in her resume :O and people are already seeing about that. Everything is a lie so far. But she's still soliciting employment at forums and blogs, and linking to her website!

Yeah, and like I said, only careless studios would hire someone without solid proof of work. Most studios know how easy it is to steal digital works. An interview can easily reweal what they're really dealing with.

Probably she was making her own 'business' by stealing works. Use other deviants' works to gain profit :shakes head sadly: That's not nice.
