You can even capture the personalities, it seems... Just an Amazing Work!
Nice job on working in a fitting expression for Iago. I'm convinced that the little parrot that my grandparents have (if you remember the painting I did of him a while back) would be a devious, tiny villain were he in a Disney movie.
Thank you I think this is his best angle. That's why I really wanted to have this WIP here, because I couldn't quite rotate him to show his profile on the full render, or it would have looked like he was looking into Jafar's ear or something. I tried making him look the other way, but I wasn't convinced either. It took me a long time to find the right shapes and proportions for Iago (which also can be seen in the video ). I'm satisfied with it now, specially with this view, because he looks absolutely... wrong from the front But I guess that's what happens with turning 2D into 3D. Maleficent's horns, Mickey's ears and Iago's beak defy logic in 2D, but 3D is a whole other thing
I remember your gramps's parrot Quite a character. Mine died, btw in the last days of October, really. Lots of really bad things happened around that time. I felt jinxed, or I would have if I believed in that kind of thing. That's one of the reasons I never made this multivillain thing I planned to do for Halloween. But well, it's in the past. Hopefully Halloween 2014 will find me with many new members in the villains' guild
Speaking of feathered pets, I originally intended to make Diablo for Maleficent, but I wasn't pleased with how it looked (it actually look dead, poorly stuffed and coated in resin ) and I was also failing at making Maleficent's hands look right. So I dropped it. I still intend to finish it at some point, and improve and complete the lady herself. I think I'll make this kind of portrait for the villains series but apart from that I will also make some fullbody shots and other scenes with my models. And I yapped again like there's no tomorrow
Oh man, I'm sorry about Caturro How old was he? I know Monks can live quite a while.
I hope you do end up working on some version of Diablo again! He's one of my favorite Disney animal sidekicks (seems like just about everybody in the Disney universe has one...). I'll bet he would be hard to render, even more so than Iago. They're both birds but Diablo has scruffy raven feathers instead of the smooth parrot ones that Iago has. (Like I have any idea what it's like to make these/what's harder or more difficult to do. )
Thanks That's the saddest part, he was only four, or five, tops. He was so smart and... 'articulate'. He even had such a musical ear. Not only would he sing back to me, he'd sing if I merely snapped my fingers rhythmically. He was actually sensitive to plain rhythm! He'd always surprise me, since the day he was a tiny thing bathing in a teacup, looked at me and said his own name Probably I already told you that, sorry. He had a sort of a wart in his back and we didn't notice for a while, I remember my grandma's canaries had that sometimes. He got sick and we gave him antibiotics, but I guess it was too late.
I do intend to finish Diablo and complete Maleficent. I'd really like to do some more pieces with each and all of my villains, apart from the typical portrait for the 'collection'. I'm not sure what will I do with Diablo, though. You're right about the difficulty and he requires... some sort of sharper, feathery, drier look I couldn't quite give him in August 2012, even now I don't know what to do. I think since I failed at making him with his wings folded in rest, maybe I should make him spread winged and screaming. I don't know.
I'm not necessarily into SEO, what I do is mostly retro and somehow irrelevant, but I think I might do something with the lady and the bird for late May, when the movie comes out. What do you think about the Angelina movie, btw? I remember when it was first announced ages ago I thought "That'll never happen!". And now it's almost there. I'm sort of looking forward to it, I guess. Even if it messes with things it shouldn't mess with.
I do remember the teacup bath. That's so sweet. I really am sorry that he passed, especially since he was relatively young and obviously meant a lot to you. The good memories make it worth it.
As I've made pretty clear with my dumb questions, I know nothing about what goes into making 3D renders. But for what it's worth, my vote's for making Diablo screaming and with his wings spread. That would look insanely cool.
I'm not sure about the new Maleficent movie with Angelina Jolie. The trailers look amazing visually. But as history has sometimes demonstrated, amazing promos aren't automatically indicative of a quality movie. Though I figure that Disney would be very hesitant to allow this kind of movie, let alone back it and promote it like they are, if they didn't feel really good about it. Especially since I agree with what you mentioned about it possibly "messing with things it shouldn't mess with." We'll just have to see.
I think I will indeed try to go for the 'alarmed' Diablo, it'll also be good to make him look less like Iago and maybe more like (spoiler, lol) Hayabusa.
I'm for one looking forward to 'Maleficent' even when I really think they shouldn't have messed with her at all. I think making it a prequel was 'bad enough', but this seems like it's going to be a complete retelling of Sleeping Beauty as well, and that's what worries me the most. But well, I'm still kinda excited. I kinda liked what they did with 'Oz the Great and Powerful', though apparently nobody else did, and that one was also made a big deal of and heavily advertised. Then Oz isn't all that 'sacred' to me. I also don't like the 'fairy thing' about Maleficent. I always assumed that, from the fairytale developing into the actual animated feature, she began her life as the evil fairy from the tale, but then she evolved into the movie's Mistress of All Evil. And at that point I think the fairy category didn't apply to her anymore, I think bringing it back is a conceptual mistake. But well... sigh...
